Every year, South Korea’s unregulated dog meat industry slaughters nearly two million dogs.
From 2016 to 2019, I fostered dogs with Korean K9 Rescue, a nonprofit that finds homes for dogs saved from slaughterhouses and other inhumane conditions in South Korea.
I was lucky to foster a sweet warrior named Dorothy (pictured above) for three months. Her inspiring rescue and rehabilitation journey was reported by The Dodo—and made its rounds to South Korea’s largest web portals, Naver and Daum.

Coco was my dog of 17 years (June 10, 1998–October 8, 2015). She taught me how to love unconditionally, and what it means to have a good death.
She enjoyed napping on laps and laptops.
I’ll always carry her fiercely loving spirit with me.
